Spyridon Konitsiotis

Prof Spyridon Konitsiotis received his degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ioannina in 1987 and his Ph.D. from the same Faculty in 1990 with the thesis topic "Neuropharmacology and Functional Anatomy of the Basic Ganglia". He is a Neurologist and Professor of Neurology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Ioannina. He was a fellow of the Alexander Onassis Foundation and a Fellow of the American Parkinson's Disease Association and of the National Parkinson Foundation at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, NIH, Bethesda, Maryland, USA. His research interests focus on motor diseases, neuropharmacology, Parkinson's disease and Multiple Sclerosis. He has more than 130 publications in scientific journals, conferences and books in books, and has received more than 3.400 citations (h-index=31). He has significant clinical experience in patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases. He also has specialized training on subjects such as: extrapyramidal diseases, Positron Emission Tomography (PET) as well as selection, preparation, intraoperative assessment, postoperative monitoring, regulation and programming of electrical stimulus parameters in patients with electrodes implanted in basal ganglia (deep brain stimulation).
